Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads men and women to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in Somonauk and surrounding communities in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Fraternal organization that serves the pastor, parish and community. Our goal is to help men, their families and their parishes grow closer to Christ. Through our programs and resources, we provide opportunities to live and spread the Catholic Faith. Our Council especially focus on the family, youth, vocation to the priesthood, and pro-life issues. The Fox Valley South Council (13436) serves both St. John the Baptist Parish in Somonauk and St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Sandwich.
During the past ten years, our council has raised approximately $50,000 for the benefit of the Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich through the annual Tootsie Roll Drive. We are currently raising funds for the purchase of an ultrasound machine for a pregnancy center.
The council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:15 PM. For additional information about our council or to join, contact Nick Cinfio, Grand Knight, or Chuck Durancik, Financial Secretary, or the Parish Office.
We invite you to visit the Knights of Columbus National Website.
As we grow older, sometimes we find ourselves living in loneliness. This could be because we have lost a spouse, our children have grown and moved away, we cannot drive anymore or medical issues that keep us from going out into the community to socialize with others. We need volunteers to visit those in their homes to bring love and happiness to fill their day with simple activities such as reading, singing, listening to music, playing cards, playing musical instruments, making a batch of cookies, bringing in your favority dessert with a cup of coffee, or just listening to concerns they might have.
Members of the Prison Ministry work under the direction of the Prison Ministry in the Diocese of Rockford, sharing our faith with inmates in prison through letter writing, visits and as prayer partners.
